About Jim Fronapfel

Jim Fronapfel I consider myself an artist in flux, probably always will be. I have styles I prefer at this time. I like growing, changing, but mostly finding a way to share visually what I see. To me art is rhythm and music that please the eye and soul. It is not just an image, rather an external translation of artist and subject, which has no end. My art is never finished. I just abandon pieces at a point worth sharing. I think the best art tells a story that only you can feel.
I prefer capturing the figure, this is a timeless medium. I think I’ll leave it to you to see why. With this I hope to find the vision that attracts as much emotion as it portrays, maybe it will steal your sole.

While at presently I work with pastels because of the richness they offer and only limitations are my skills, I have branched out and am now creating in oil, water colors and sculpting. I try to use the medium that seems best suited for my vision. Probably one of the biggest challenges is starting a piece of work hoping my skills would match my vision, and then followed by knowing when to abandon the piece and have it framed.

I have been drawing as long as I can remember, with my first creations being done on an “Etch-a-Sketch”, drawing horses while sitting on a fence. Until recently I have drawn as a hobby. Now I wish to extend my work to a more serious level, especially in expressing the human soul through both figurative and portrait work. I want to create that drawing that one cannot take their eyes from, not for the sake of pride but for the sake of an individual soul that draws life to it.

My formal education in art consists of workshops in pastels, drawing and water color painting. I am currently a member of the “Colorado Coalition of Artists” where I also work in developing and coordinating models for their figure group. I have been displaying works in their Galleries in Ft. Collins, CO for the past 5 years. I have also displayed work with the “Northern Colorado Writers” and Bridging Hope Gallery in Denver, and have been asked to do pieces for various charities and events. I also do commissioned works of people and their pets. My hope is to be able to share my work in a wider spectrum of galleries in and outside of Colorado.

Currently I have a studio and display my work at “Lola’s Fresh Patina Gallery” in Loveland, Colorado.
